A major fatal crash at Okobe, about 11 km from Ahoada on the Ahiada -Mbiama on the East-West road in Rivers State has been recorded by officers of The Federal Road Safety Commission in Rivers State, Nigeria.
The incident occurred at about 06.30hrs today, 12 July, 2012 where a tanker laden with petrol crashed with three other vehicles - a Toyota Corolla, Hummer bus and Mitshibushi bus.
The four vehicles and 34 motorcycles were burnt. 93 people died on the spot (burnt), 2 died in the hospital, making 95 deaths, while 18 persons were injured. High casualties recorded as people were scooping fuel from the crashed trailer when the tanker exploded... FRSC, Police, Fire Service and JTF personnel are at the scene.
...but the question is "when will our people begin to learn from past incidents to forestall future occurrence?" May the Lord safe the Land.
