Acting under the grace of GOD!

Rev. Jim Solomon
In the midst of turbulence, it takes only the grace and wisdom of God to be composed and act extra-ordinarily.

This was the case of a yet to be identified little girl of about 6years old, who ran out of the school building covered in blood from head to toe and the first words she said to her mom when she got outside was, "Mummy, I'm okay but, all my friends are dead" the Rev. Jim Solomon, pastor of New Hope Community Church in Newtown, Connecticut, told the news agent in a report that is  aired Sunday.

The girl happened to be the only child who made it out alive of a first-grade classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School last week — by fooling the gunman into thinking she was  dead, the family pastor said.

In his words, "the little girl couldn't have survived outside divine intervention. She has wisdom beyond her years!"

Remembering Gandhi!!!

Mahatma Gandhi

Yesterday marked 143rd birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the man who believed that non-violence is the essence of all religions. He was born October 2, 1869.

During his life, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for non-violence, civil rights and freedom across the world.

Father of the nation(as proclaimed by Indians) was assassinated on January 30, 1948, in Delhi, by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist who felt Gandhi was too sympathetic towards Muslims!

He is no more but his works are following him!

"Children exposed to sex on screen 'go on to be promiscuous'"

A study recently conducted has found that Children who watch films with a high sexual content tend to lose their virginity earlier and have more partners.

The researchers said "movies could have this effect on adolescents because of a personality trait they dub ‘sensation-seeking’."

"Between the ages of ten and 15, the tendency to seek more novel and intense stimulation of all kinds peaks. The wild hormonal surges of adolescence makes judicious thinking a bit more difficult."

He added that greater exposure to sexual content in movies at a young age actually led to a higher peak in ‘sensation-seeking’ during adolescence.

Parents, "train up your children in the way of the Lord...!"

United Nations observes deadly attack on her office in Nigeria.

Bombing survivor John Agbo helps UN Staff Representative,
Uzorma Ihedirimadu-Abudu lay wreath in memory of victims.

A year ago this week, twenty-four (24) people were killed in an attack on UN House in Abuja, Nigeria. We remember them.

In his word, the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Daouda Toure said “Although the devastating attack took the lives of our colleagues and partners and maimed many people, all of whom were in the building in the pursuit of service to humanity, our spirits have not been dampened,”

“Their death mobilizes us more than ever before. Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” he added. “We will strive to pursue our work for the people of Nigeria for the continuance of peace and stability of this great nation, and the socio-economic development of all...”

He reaffirmed that the UN system in Nigeria will continue on its mission “to assist in improving the lives of poor people, to conquer hunger, disease and illiteracy, and to encourage respect for each other’s rights and freedoms.”

How you come into life is not your fault but what you become!

Hassan Farah (left and middle) and Mohammed 'Mo' Farah (Right)

Hassan Farah, left, has revealed he and his twins brother, Mohammed "Mo" Farah (a British Somali international track and field athlete) had such a close bond that they slept in the same bed and shared food from the same plate. But the boys were forced to say goodbye at the age of eight when their parents made the agonising decision to send three of their six children, including Mo (right), to Britain for a chance of a better life. Hassan remained in Somalia and grew up in the dust and poverty Mo had left behind.

He knew that how he came into life is not his fault but what he becomes in life. So, despite his adversity, he went on to become a successful telecoms communications engineer while Mo is the current 10,000 m Olympic champion and 5000 m Olympic and world champion!

The man with the world's strechiest skin - Gary Turner

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that has weakened skin.

In most cases the disorder weakens people's joints and blood vessels and affects about one in 10,000 people. A good example is Mr Turner, 41, a former star of Circus of Horrors, the group which auditioned for Britain's Got Talent last year.

He first noticed his stretchy skin when he was around three or four years old.

His skin is so loose and stretchy he can turn his belly into a table - capable of holding three pints of beer.

He is now a performer for the Royal Family of Strange People, a unique collective of fascinating individuals currently performing in London.

Do not under estimate anyone...

This quotation from Shakespeare reminds me of story once read on the wall of a friend on Facebook and I deemed it worths sharing with my readers.

A poor boy loved a rich girl. One day the boy proposed to her and the girl said, "Hey! Listen, your monthly salary is my daily hand expenses. How can I be involved with you? How could you have thought of that? I can never love you. So, forget about me and get engaged to someone else at your level". But somehow the boy could not forget her so easily.

Sometime ten years later, they stumbled into eachother in a shopping mall. The lady said, "Hey! You! How are you? Now I'm married and do you know how much my husband's salary is? $1,700 per month! Can you believe that? And he is also very smart." The guy's eyes got wet with tears on hearing those words. A few seconds later, her husband came but before the lady could say a word, her husband seeing the guy, said, "Sir you're here? Meet my wife." Then he said to his wife, "This is my boss, I'm also one of those working on his $100 million project. And do you know a fact my dear? My boss loved a lady but he couldn't win her heart. That's why he has remained unmarried. How lucky would that lady have been if she had married him. These days, who will love someone that much" he said to his wife. The lady looked in total shock but couldn't utter a word.

Life is so short and it's just like a mirror. You can only see as much as it reflects. So don't be too arrogant and proud of yourself by looking down on people because situations change with time! Don't under-estimate anyone, because everyone has a potential!!!

Torture for her belief!!!

'They wanted to hang me... they thought it would be an insult... if I lived...'
This is the statement of a 26-year-old woman, Julie Aftab, who was horrifically burned ten years ago in an acid attack that caused bone-deep wounds simply for what she believed!

Be in control!!!

Dear Reader,

"Jack grew up with a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails such that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of their fence. On the first day Jack had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually reduced. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence because of the effort it entails. Finally the day came when he didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father, he then suggested that he start to pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and Jack was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father led him to the fence and said, 'You have done well, my son but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same because whenever we say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this. You can stab a man with a knife, but it doesn't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there.

This week please remember that verbal abuse is as bad as physical abuse if not worse. We must learn to treat people with dignity, respect and honour in the face of grievances, complaints and disagreements. "He who has control over his emotion of anger can capture a whole city. We must overcome negative emotion with good disposition and never match evil for evil. We often use words to make or mar our relationships. Relationships are rare jewels, indeed they make us happy and fulfilled but sometimes they can hurt us and drive us to tears. Be mindful of your temper this week!"

Have a great week!

Another Bomb blast in North-Central Nigeria!

In the recent times, Nigeria is being faced with diverse menace... Just this morning, there was bomb explosion in three curches in the north western part of Kaduna. As reported, two of these attack were in Zaria, while the third was in the city of Kaduna!

"Casualty figure is yet to be confirmed but a worshipper at the church said he saw three bodies after the attack."

Following these bombings believed to have been carried out by members of Boko Haram, the Kaduna state government has imposed a 24 hour curfew.

The big question that troubles minds is "when will all these calamities end?". "The president said he had consolation in God who is capable of handling every situation and healing the nation." It is, then, high time we took the task seriously..."Pray for the peace of "Jerusalem" (NIGERIA)! May they prosper who love you [NIGERIA - the city of the Lord]!"

Perception: Eyes which actually see are rare!

Joshua Bell

"A man sat at Washington DC Metro Station on a cold morning with a violin playing six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. Over this period approximately two thousand people went through that station most of them on their way to work. After 3 minutes a middle aged man noticing a musician playing slowed his pace, stopped for a few seconds and then he went off to meet his schedule. At exactly 4 minutes later the violinist received his first dollar from a woman who threw the money in the hat while walking on. 6 minutes later a young man leaned against the wall to listen but then looked at his watch and walked off. At exactly 10 minutes, a 3-year old boy stopped as his mother tugged him along hurriedly while he looked back at intervals until they were out of sight. This action was repeated by several other children with their parents without exception.  45 minutes after this musician started playing only 6 people had stopped to listen for a short while. 20 gave money but continued walking at their normal pace.  After 1 hour, the man successfully collected a total sum of $32. After he finished, silence filled the station. No one noticed, applauded nor was there any recognition. No one knew that the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians of all times who played one of the most intricate pieces ever written that morning with a violin worth $3.5 million. Two days before this experience, Joshua Bell sold out tickets for a theatre concert in Boston.

Joshua Bell played incognito in the metro station courtesy of the Washington Post as part of a social campaign about human perception, taste and priorities. The question addressed was, in a common place at an inappropriate hour do people still perceive and appreciate beauty? Can we recognize talent in an unexpected setting?  One possible conclusion was that we often all miss out on valuable things in life's journey.

This week we must learn how to walk through each day with our hearts open combined with seeing eyes to recognise opportunities. Eyes which look are common but the ones who actually see are rare. The valuables of the earth are not easily recognised by many people but it is the honour of kings to seek understanding."

Let us make life better for others!!!

"A student was taking a walk with a professor one day who was commonly called the students' friend because of his kindness and his being a life coach. As they went along, lying in the path was a pair of old shoes which belonged to a poor man who was employed alone in a field close by for a day's wage. The student turned to the professor: "Let us play a trick on the man. We will hide his shoes, hide behind those bushes and wait to see his perplexity when he cannot find them." My young friend answered the professor, "we should never amuse ourselves at the expense of the poor rather let us put a coin in each shoe, let's hide ourselves and watch how the discovery affects him."

They did so and the man soon finished his work, came across the field to the path where he had left his shoes. While putting on his coat he slipped his foot into one of his shoes but feeling something hard, he stooped to see what it was and he found a coin. Astonishment and wonder overwhelmed his countenance. He gazed at the coin, turned and looked all around fervently to see if someone had dropped it for him but no one was there. He held the money and proceeded to put on his other shoe but his surprise was doubled on finding the other coin.

The overwhelming feeling was beyond expectation. He fell upon his knees and uttered aloud a fervent thanksgiving in which he spoke of his wife, sick and helpless. He mentioned his children who are without bread, but whom this timely intervention from some unknown hand would save from perishing. The student stood there speechless deeply affected, tears filled his eyes. Now said the professor I think you are better pleased than if you had played your intended trick? The youth responded, today you have indeed taught me a lesson which I will never forget. I now understand the truth in those words: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive'. We also may not probably realise that a little act of kindness in words, disposition and attitude adjustment can  make life better for our neighbours, colleagues, friends and family members rather than the intended trick of harsh words supposedly to put them in check. Let's apply the reality check 101 this week and stretch ourselves to make life better for others."

A parenting style: Mother forced her daughter to pen a public apology for her actions and upload it to Facebook...

Mrs. Billingsley and daughter

"Train up your child in the way he should go..."."A properly trained child will fear God and live a wise and righteous life as an adult. An untrained child will not fear God or live a wise and righteous life as an adult. Only a miracle of grace can undo poor child training..."

ReShonda Tate Billingsley, a renowned authour, after seeing her daughter, 12, share a photo of herself holding a bottle of Vodka, sprung into action, forcing her daughter to pen a public apology for her actions and upload it to Facebook and Instagram.

The reason is nothing but to make sure she grow up to be productive members of society. 'When it comes to my kids, I don’t play. This is a new age. We have to meet kids where they are,' she said. 'I’d rather you talk about me now than talk about my child later.'

Parents, how are you nurturing the God's gifts in your care?

Avoid late night snacks, they make you fat: Having set meals protects you from piling on the pounds!

It is no news that eating fatty food piles on the pounds. However, the time we eat may be crucial as what we put in our mouths... research suggests.

There is, therefore, a warning that "eating late is likely to be contributing to rising obesity levels", quoting scientists.

The warning comes after tests on mice. One group were allowed to eat only during an eight-hour period, while a second group could graze on what they wanted all day and night.

US researchers found that even though the two groups were eating about the same amount of calories, those who ate at set times during the day did not become obese.

They suggest that those who ate when they wanted to, gained weight because they disrupted their body clock – and they believe the same principle may apply to humans.

Topical Issue...

Can analytical thinking destroy your faith in God (even if you're devout)?
Readers, your view on this is highly appreciated!

Show that you care...

Collie

Ms Fox and her dog - Collie

"...Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.”

Roosevelt the collie dog, from Portland, Maine, is a disable animal adopted  by Ms Stephanie Fox from a rescue shelter three years ago when he was a puppy. He was bought a $900 custom-built wheelchair to stand in for his two front legs while on walks with his owner.  But at home, he hops around on his two back legs, much like a kangaroo.

'If you had a child with a disability you'd try to enrich them, give them opportunities,' Fox said. 'So why not do the same with a dog?'

This is good to emulate... Show that you care and be kind to people to meet on your ways because you never can tell!

It is good to be good!

I was reading through a friend's notes on facebook and came across this story which I believe worths sharing... Do read along.

One day, a poor boy who was begging from door to door to feed his hungry stomach decided he would ask for a meal at the next house.

However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water. The woman thought he looked hungry, so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "how much do I owe you?". "you don't owe me anything", she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for kindness".
"he said... Then I thank you from my heart". Years later, that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors are baffled because they couldn't cure her. They finally sent her to the big city, where they call specialists to study her rare illness. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town where she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately, he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. He recognised her at once. he went back 2 d consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day, he gave special attention to that case. After long struggle, the battle was won!!! Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the bill. It was sent to her room. The woman feared opening it, for she was sure it will take the rest of her life to pay for it all.

Finally she looked, and noticed something was written at the edge of the note. "paid for in full for a glass of milk". Tears filled her eyes as she immediately remembered...

Every form of kindness you sow doesn't bounce, it reproduces itself. Not necessarily before your eyes, but it always does. . It is good to be good!

Six-legged baby battling for his life...

A baby is battling for his life at a Pakistan hospital after being born with a rare genetic condition that left him with six legs, hospital officials said.

According to AFP, the infant was born to the wife of an X-ray technician a week ago and is believed to be one of parasitic twins.

"It is not one baby actually. They are two, one of them is premature," Jamal Raza, the director of National Institute of the Child Health in Karachi, told reporters.

Doctors at the institute are fighting to save the newborn, who remains in an intensive care unit ward.

Raza said the doctors were planning to operate on the boy and were considering asking for help from foreign experts.

The rare disease is believed to afflict just one in a million babies.

"The doctors are examining the infant to plan for necessary treatment to save the baby's life and ensure he lives a normal life," a statement from the provincial health department said.

The baby's father Imran Shaikh who lives around 450 kilometres from the city of Karachi said he was grateful his son was being treated and that he was too poor to afford the treatment.

A word for the week: Build bonds with those you love

Building bonds with loved ones

A merchant in a small town had an identical twin son. The boys worked for their father in his department store and when he died, they took over the store. Everything went well until the day a twenty-dollar bill disappeared. One of the brothers had left the bill on the cash register to attend to a customer but when he returned, the money was gone. He asked his brother probing with a subtle accusation in his voice. Temper rose and before long, a bitter chasm separated the young men. They refused to speak, decided they could no longer work together and erected a dividing wall from the centre of the store. For twenty years the hostility grew, spreading to their families and the community. Then one day, a man from another state stopped by, walked in and asked the clerk, "How long have you been here?" The clerk replied 'all my life'. The man then said, "I must share something with you. Twenty years ago I rode into this town in a boxcar. I hadn't eaten for three days. I came into this store from the back door and saw a twenty-dollar bill on the cash register, put it in my pocket and walked out. All these years I haven't been able to forget that. I know it wasn't much money, but I had to come back to ask your forgiveness." The man was amazed to see tears well up in the eyes of this middle-aged man. "Would you please go next door and tell that same story to the man in the store?" he said. Then the customer was amazed to see two middle-aged men, who looked very much alike, embracing each other and weeping together in the front of the store. After twenty years, their brokenness was mended and the wall of resentment that divided them came down.

This classic is straight up for us this week. Life is too short for experiment that can blow up the laboratories of our relationships. Insignificant disagreements if not handled with care can lead us into resentments, bitterness, depression and breakdown of communication in relationships. People have been fired from work, partnerships broken in business because of relationship management. There is no offence grievous that shouldn't be forgiven anyone. It is often the little foxes that spoil the vine. The solution which may not be of a popular consensus, but it is simply to let people go when they hurt us. This week, refuse to harbour bitterness and you will be amazed at how much energy you have to build bonds with those you love.

100 years remembrance of Titanic

Titanic

Today April 15, 2012 marks the 100years the ill-fated Titanic ship hit an iceberg and sank. More than 1,500 people who died in the accident were from Southampton and as  a result, over 650 descendants of those on board gathered for a ceremony at the same berth on the city's docks where the Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912.

various activities greeted the event ranges from throwing of flowers and wreaths into the water where the White Star liner left port, to a moment of silence for the victim and a dockside service which was ended with the hymn "Nearer My God To Thee," said to have been played by the ship's musicians as Titanic sank.

Despite his look like that of a woman, his walk betrayed him!

Ronaldo Silva, a suspect who had been awaiting trial for drug trafficking in Brazil, popped on his wife's bra, threw on a wig and poured his curves into her pretty blue dress for the daring escape... but had not mastered how to walk in heels. Half an hour into his daring bid for freedom, he was noticed by one eagle-eyed guard who followed him. The policeman approached him and managed to arrest him and bring him back, still dressed as a woman.

Transgender beauty queen is fit to contest!

Jenna Talackova

Even though she was born a he, Jenna Talackova, the Canadian beauty queen has no cause to fight the Trump organization as the decision to throw 'her' out of the competition has been reversed.

Talackova, 23, was first selected as one of 65 finalists for the Donald Trump-owned competition and her profile and photos were pulled from the Miss Universe Canada website. 'She' was soon booted out when it became suspicious that she was not naturally born a female, according to CTV.

"The Miss Universe Organization will allow Jenna Talackova to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant, of which its crown will be awarded May 19 in Toronto, provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions," Michael D. Cohen, executive vice president and special counsel to Donald Trump, said in an email.

Keep your brain running at peak function...

Medical science noted that the human brain takes a downward slide very early at age 25 in every human being but however we can keep ours running at peak function if we choose to know how at whatever age.

If we need to become better thinkers and be more creative in our lives, then the following are what we can we do:

Keep learning new skills - playing new instruments, learning new languages, engaging in certain mental exercises like crosswords puzzles, or story writing.

Improve your brain routine by not wasting mental energy. You can choose to remember the "small stuff" - birthdays, anniversaries, outings, what to buy from the store, when to renew your driver's licence by simply using calendars, notebooks, file folders, planers and shopping lists. Don't commit to memory anything that can easily be looked up in a book." Use mental energy for learning important things, life skills. Our brains need challenges on which to concentrate, not unimportant things to remember!

Whatever works for the heart will work for the brain." This simply means: Eat well and healthy especially large quantities of fruits and vegetables. You can also choose to eat the so-called brain food: blueberries, wild salmon, lemons and cinnamon, green tea, saffron.

Exercise, rest well, laugh and stay away from avoidable self imposed stress.

Above all, embrace God's thoughts in your life. Read His Word to receive His wisdom. For the Lord God is wisdom and from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding

The Types Of Men Who Make GREAT Husbands!!!

For all those single women out there who often wonder what type of man they should marry or how they will know if he's "The One" they're meant to spend forever with, this list is 100 percent for you. I just culled it out from a site and aside it originally appeared on ManWifeandDog.com.  I am of the opinion that this list has some of the insight you seek. Read on, ladies, and take notes. You can as well drop your comments  or share your view below.

1. The Provider

He puts family first, always. He's a selfless man, who lives to please those he cares most about. He's the kind of man who can work two jobs in his sleep, always has a side-hustle in mind to earn more money, and guards his savings with his life. He can't rest until he knows the ones he loves are okay. He strives for perfection at home and in the office. Work-life balance is very important to him, but if missing time with his loved ones means a better life for them, he's always game to put in the overtime and take one for the team. Words like "no," "can't," and "impossible," are just not in his vocabulary, and when he hears others use them, it only increases his devotion to the task at hand.

Why He Makes a Good Husband: Marriage is the start of a new family -- your family. You will both want to provide for the family you create together, and it's imperative that you are partners with the same goals in mind. That said, there will be times when one person just cannot do as much as the marriage (or family) requires -- such is life. Marrying a natural-born provider will be a huge plus when the scales in your marriage tip, as they inevitably will at different points along your path.

2. The Rock

At your weakest moments, his strength keeps you stable and inspires you to push through. He isn't immune to pain or frustration, but he does handle it well, and he knows how to pull himself out of low places. He's the kind of man who never misses your call when he knows you need to get something off your chest, or better, just a friend to be there for you. Speaking of chests, his is always there for you to lean on, squeeze, and find comfort in when it feels like only a hug will do.

Why He Makes a Good Husband: He's loyal, devoted, and a true pillar in the world of the woman he loves. This is the perfect recipe for a loving husband that you can count on through thick and thin; what woman doesn't dream of marrying one of those?

3. The Critical Thinker

There isn't a problem, big or small, that he isn't itching to solve. He's a quick, solid, thinker, who hates to be backed into a corner. He doesn't just see the problem in front of him; he sees a road map of the many solutions available to him and takes his time as he determines the best way to get there, or the course of action he must take. He is patient, because he has to be -- rushing things is rarely the answer and he knows this. He's diligent, focused, and considers himself a mental Olympian of sorts.

Why He Makes a Good Husband: Marriage is truly beautiful, but it comes with its share of problems, and its rough patches. Happier times aren't always just around the bend -- getting there may require a detailed plan and thinking smarter, not harder. He will make a great team player during the moments where the only way to win is to work together, and trust me, those moments can and will arise in marriage.

4. The Believer

When the world around him comes crumbling down and the sun seems as if it will never rise again, this man still believes -- his faith is his foundation. It gets him through the good and the bad, and it never falters. He believes in the things unseen and those that many give up on when the world turns cold: hope, morals, kindness, and good will. He has a church home, or a religious mainstay in his life and the fellowship refuels his engines. He's God-fearing (whoever his God) and he's proud of his strong beliefs. His moral compass is always turned in a positive direction, and he refuses to accept failure. He helps others and chooses to live his life in a way he believes others should live theirs.

Why He Makes a Good Husband: This man has the emotional tools needed in his toolbox to repair many of the cracks and dents that will inevitably appear in any marriage. He's a fighter, and he will fight with you and for your marriage. He won't give up, even when you do.

5. The Free Spirit

Spending time with this man never gets old. He believes that life is about living and therefore is virtually immune to the physical afflictions caused by stress and worry. It's not that he doesn't feel those emotions; he just refuses to let them consume him. He stays positive and seeks to enjoy all aspects of his life, as much as humanly possible. He has most likely chosen a career he loves over one that pays all the bills. Therefore he's just as passionate about his work as he can be about feeding his cravings for new adventures. He enjoys traveling and most likely has a bucket list at least a quarter complete. He doesn't believe in wasting time worrying about what can't happen and prefers to shift his focus to what can. With him, there's never a dull moment at home, in the bedroom, or when you're out and about. His inner light shines through and warms the spirits of those around him. He keeps life exciting -- almost as if, each day he presses the refresh button.

Why He Makes a Good Husband: Spending the rest of your life with the same person, doing many of the same things can be as boring or as exciting as you make it. Marrying this man ensures that one pitfall your marriage won't ever fall into is that of pure and utter boredom. It sounds simple, but it's so important.
